A man was found dead Thursday morning in a drainage ditch along the 6000 block of Jefferson Davis Highway in North Augusta, prompting an investigation by local authorities.
The Aiken County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene at about 8:20 a.m., where the body of a male was discovered. The man has been identified, but his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables. An autopsy will be conducted in Newberry to determine the cause of death.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office said investigators and forensic units were dispatched to the scene and are continuing to gather evidence. Officials said the investigation
is in its early stages and no additional details are available at this time.
