The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the deaths of two longtime deputies who died less than 24 hours apart.
Deputy Jailer Michael Davis died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon while off duty following a medical emergency. Davis served 28 years with the sheriff’s office and was assigned to D Shift at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
The agency suffered a second loss Wednesday morning when Deputy Phillip Wasson died following a traffic collision. Wasson had served with the sheriff’s office for 18 years and was assigned to the Traffic Division.
In a statement, Sheriff Eugene Brantley said the agency lost “two of our own” in less than a day and noted the deputies’ combined
46 years of service to Richmond County. He described Davis and Wasson as deputies, coworkers, friends and family members, and asked the community to keep both families and sheriff’s office employees in their prayers.
The sheriff’s office requested privacy for the families as they grieve. Funeral and service arrangements for both deputies will be announced at a later date.
