A major discount fashion retailer is pushing back its planned opening at Augusta Mall.
Primark has announced that "as we get the store ready for shoppers, we are no longer set to open our doors on Sept. 10," spokeswoman Mary Hanna told The Augusta Chronicle on Wednesday.
Primark will share a new opening date "shortly," she said.
The Augusta Chronicle first reported in March 2025 that the Dublin, Ireland-headquartered company had signed a lease agreement to occupy an anchor tenant spot at the mall.
Primark is a "fast fashion" seller, producing trendy clothing in volume to sell at lower prices. Online retail giants Shein and Temu follow a similar model.
Primark opened
its first store in Dublin in 1969 as Penneys, and now has nearly 500 around the world. The company's 38 stores in Ireland still operate under that name. It's known as Primark elsewhere because U.S.-based JCPenney owns the rights to the Penneys name outside Ireland.
