It’s postseason time for fall sports and for Georgia High School Association softball programs, the arduous road to Columbus has begun.
Across all classifications, teams are seeded 1-32 with higher seeds
hosting first-round matchups. These are best-of-three series, with doubleheaders for Games 1 and 2 and third “if” games should the teams split.
In all, five teams in our coverage area qualified for GHSA postseason play.
The first series of the week involve a couple of Augusta-area 3A teams. No. 32 Thomson (18-12) travels to Appling County to face the top-seeded Pirates (23-0), while No. 21 Burke County (20-10) heads north to No. 12 Stephens County (16-9). Those doubleheaders are scheduled for Monday and “if” games Tuesday.
In Class 6A, Grovetown (16-12) and Greenbrier (13-17) made the cut, but both have difficult road tests ahead of them. The No. 28 Warriors travel to No. 5 Loganville (23-4), while the No. 32 Wolfpack drew top-seeded South Effingham (24-2). Both series are scheduled for Wednesday with “if” games Thursday.
In Class 4A, perennial contender Harlem (18-9) is the lone area team that will be at home in the opening round. Mike Leverett’s squad is the 11th seed and will host No. 22 Upson-Lee (16-11) on Wednesday.
