An auto repair shop owner near North Augusta wants to open a new liquor store in downtown Augusta.
Applicant Franklin Mishoe of Carolina Auto Repair has filed an alcoholic beverage license application with the city of Augusta to open Blind Louis Liquor Store at 752 Broad St.
The owner of the property is Louis A. Williamson, who bought the 5,400-square-foot property in 2011, sold it in 2015, and bought it back in 2024, according to property records.
The vacant property had been the longtime site of F.E. Ferris & Co., a men's and boys' clothing store in business from the 1910s to the mid-1970s. More recently, the 20-foot-wide storefront was occupied by Covington Credit Corp.
Augusta's Planning and Development Department and the Richmond County Sheriff's Office have recommended approval of the liquor license, records show.
Members of the city's Public Services Committee will consider the property request at its next meeting Aug. 25.
