The Augusta Choral Society has announced its 2026-2027 concert season, following its historic 75th anniversary year.
The premier symphonic chorus of the Augusta area will present a wide-ranging lineup of works spanning Baroque masters Henry Purcell, George Frideric Handel and J.S. Bach to contemporary composers John Rutter and Morten Lauridsen.
Artistic Director and Conductor Dr. Marcel Ramalho said the season is designed to “bridge generations, styles and countries,” highlighting rarely heard pieces such as Conrad Susa’s Three Mystical Carols in December, alongside works by women composers including Marianna Martines’ Dixit Dominus in October and Amy Beach’s Festival Jubilate in March.
The season opens Oct. 17 with Bach’s beloved Cantata No. 140, “Wachet Auf” (Sleepers, Awake!). The Dec. 12 program will feature the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah with additional seasonal selections. On March 6, the chorus will present John Rutter’s Requiem. A final concert is planned for May, just before Memorial Day, and will include Randall Thompson’s Alleluia; the exact date, location, and full repertoire will be announced later in the season.
