With the first week of high school football in the books, the fall sports schedule for the 2026-2027 school year is now in full swing. Teams across a variety of sports such as softball and volleyball, though, have been competing now for a couple weeks at this point. Now, it's time to check in with you guys to find out who you believe should be the first Athlete of the Week for this academic year.Below are the nominees for the Athlete of the Week from last week's action. The poll will be open until Monday, Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.
Readers can nominate local athletes for future polls by emailing sports reporter Dhani Joseph (dajoseph@gannett.com) with the athlete's name, their sport, their school, their position, and two key stats from their performance
(e.g. 250 passing yards, 3 TD).
