The Augusta Commission has greenlit a new hotel for downtown Augusta.
Commissioners on Tuesday voted unanimously to allow a special zoning exception for property at 1310 and 1310-A Walker Street from its current industrial category to business.
The extended-stay Residence Inn by Marriott will have a kitchenette or similar kitchen area in each room, according to the applicant, Augusta law firm Hull Barrett, in a May 20 letter of intent to the city.
PSH Augusta Downtown LLC is the owner of the property, measuring about 2 acres. American Concrete operated most recently on the site. PSH bought the property in 2022.
The five-story hotel would have 125 rooms and would occupy
a 20,234-square-foot building footprint at the corner of Walker and 13th streets. The hotel's parking lot would stretch along the back property line to match the curve of a set of railroad tracks.
PSH Augusta Downtown is affiliated with PeachState Hospitality. The Warner Robins-based company's Augusta portfolio includes the Residence Inn and the SpringHill Suites at 1110 and 1116 Marks Church Road, respectively, and the Fairfield Inn & Suites at 3023 1/2 Washington Road.
