The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded nearly $33 million to help South Carolina communities recover from Hurricane Helene and other disasters.

The funding is part of more than $348 million FEMA announced for nearly 170 projects across the country.

Experts with the South Carolina Forestry Commission say hurricane Helene debris will remain a concern for a few years.

More than $32 million will support six Public Assistance projects in South Carolina, including in the Aiken area, reimbursing costs related to emergency protective measures, debris removal and utility repairs.

Additional projects include:

$30.7 million for Greenville Water to repair the North Saluda and Table Rock reservoirs.
$979,000 for Aiken County debris removal efforts.
$215,000 for Aiken Electric Cooperative Inc. for emergency protective measures.
$207,000 for the city of Seneca for emergency protective measures.
$198,000 for Clemson University to repair campus fencing.

FEMA is also awarding $685,200 through its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to support South Carolina's 2028 state hazard mitigation planning efforts.
