A European fashion retailer that delayed its new store opening at Augusta Mall now says it's ready to go.
Primark is on track to open its second store in Georgia on Thursday, according to the company, which had originally announced a Sept. 10 opening.
Shoppers "can expect fun for the whole family, with music and giveaways, first come, first served," Primark said in a Sept. 18 release.
The transaction is part of a deal that Primark brokered with Sears in 2014 in which Sears sublets its unused retail space to Primark. Seven former Sears stores in malls throughout the Northeast reopened as Primarks in 2015.
The Augusta Chronicle first reported in March 2025 that the Dublin,
Ireland-headquartered company had signed a lease agreement to occupy an anchor tenant spot at the mall.
Primark is a "fast fashion" seller, producing trendy clothing in volume to sell at lower prices, a retail model also adopted by online retail giants Shein and Temu.
Primark first opened in Dublin in 1969 under the name Penneys, and the 38 stores in Ireland today still carry that name. Elsewhere in the world, where U.S. retailer JCPenney still holds the rights to the Penneys name, the stores are branded as Primark.
