The Augusta Canoe and Kayak Club and the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area are inviting community members to participate in a cleanup of the Mill Village Trailhead on Saturday.
The cleanup effort will focus on removing litter and debris from the historic Augusta Canal waterway and surrounding areas. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the Mill Village Trailhead, 109 Eve St., behind the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Augusta.
Participants will have opportunities to help on both land and water. Organizers say the effort is intended to improve conditions along the canal and help keep the area clean for visitors. The event is open to the public.
Water volunteers should bring
their own canoe or kayak, paddles, and a personal flotation device. Land volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and durable clothing.
Participants are also encouraged to bring sunscreen, insect repellent and reusable water bottles. According to organizers, the Augusta Canal Authority will provide trash bags, gloves, and litter grabbers.
