A government contractor serving Fort Gordon is eliminating dozens of jobs at the U.S. Army base's hospital.
Amentum is an operations management company that specializes in staffing facilities with employees who require high security clearances. It recently announced it will permanently cut 77 jobs at Fort Gordon's Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center.
Amentum had recently lost its support contract involving the fort's hospital, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Amentum filed notice of the job cuts Sept. 4 as required under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
The cuts come on the heels of a pushback by Georgia's two U.S. senators challenging
staff and service reductions at the hospital proposed in May by the Defense Health Agency.
Under the DHA plan, Eisenhower would no longer have general inpatient hospital beds or provide services such as major surgeries or extended intensive care. Operating rooms would be used only for outpatient surgeries. The emergency room would become a walk-in urgent care clinic.
