Travelers in Augusta will have access to both local and interstate bus transportation from a single location after a new partnership between Augusta Transit and he parent company of bus line Greyhound.
A five-year lease agreement OK'd by the Augusta Commission in August now allows FLIX/Greyhound to operate from Augusta Transit’s Transfer Facility at 1546 Broad St., the city recently announced.
The announcement does not include any plans for new Augusta Transit bus routes. The agreement focuses on expanding access to Greyhound’s interstate bus network through the city’s existing transit center.
Under the agreement, Greyhound will use space previously occupied by Southeastern
Stages, including a customer service and ticketing counter, boarding bay and baggage storage area.
City officials expect the partnership to make travel more convenient by bringing local and long-distance bus services together at one location. The deal also is expected to strengthen transportation connections in and near Augusta while generating revenue for Augusta Transit through lease payments.
“This partnership gives residents and visitors another convenient transportation option while making better use of our existing transit facility,” Augusta Transit Director Sharon Dottery said in a statement.
Augusta Transit information is available at AugustaGa.gov/Transit. Information on Greyhound service including schedules, destinations and ticket purchases is available through Greyhound’s Augusta service page.
