Though Halloween might be dedicated to all things spooky, there's nothing frightful about the expected weather this weekend.
Forecasters are calling for sunny skies and comfortable temperatures, with daytime highs hovering around 80 degrees and evenings cooling into the upper 50s and low 60s.
“These temperatures are right around normal values, " said Drew Hickok, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Columbia, South Carolina. “The normal value for Halloween in Augusta is the high temperature around 74, and the low temperature around 46. So we're right around there.”
Augusta weekend forecast
- Friday: High 80, low 57
- Saturday: High 79, low 58
- Sunday: High 77, low 60
While the Atlantic hurricane season doesn't officially end until Nov. 30, Hickok said there
are currently no tropical systems expected to affect the region. The area could, however, see a slight increase in moisture after an extended stretch of dry weather.
“Considering how dry it's been, moisture should increase a little bit as we head into the weekend,” Hickok said. “Even if it doesn't rain Friday or Saturday, the added moisture should help reduce fire-weather concerns somewhat.”
Anyone heading out for trick-or-treating, football games, or Halloween events should keep a light jacket handy, Hickok said. Temperatures tend to drop quickly after sunset this time of year.
He also encouraged residents planning bonfires or other outdoor fires to monitor weather conditions and follow local burning regulations.
“If it's windy, consider your choices when it comes to bonfires,” Hickok said.
