Several Georgia hospitals received special recognition by U.S. News and World Report in both the overall regional rankings and in the national rankings for high-performing specialties. Here's what we know:
Which hospitals ranked as Georgia's best?
According to the regional rankings, the top hospitals in Georgia are:
- Emory University Hospital
- Piedmont Atlanta Hospital
- Emory St. Joseph's Hospital
- Emory University Hospital Midtown and Northside Hospital Cherokee
Best hospitals in US
Five hospitals in Georgia were nationally ranked in at least one specialty:
- Emory University Hospital in Atlanta was No. 45 in cancer, No. 36 in geriatrics, No. 39 in urology, and No. 28 in neurology and neurosurgery
- Piedmont Atlanta Hospital was No. 11 in cardiology, heart, and vascular surgery.
- Northside Hospital Atlanta was No. 46 in cancer.
- Shepherd Center in Atlanta was No. 9 in rehabilitation.
- Children's Healthcare of Atlanta was No. 26 in neonatology, No. 13 in pediatric cancer, No. 14 in pediatric cardiology and heart surgery, No. 34 in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology, No. 15 in pediatric gastroenterology and GI surgery, No. 17 in nephrology, No. 19 in pediatric neurology and neurosurgery, No. 9 in pediatric orthopedics, No. 20 in pediatric pulmonology and lung surgery, and No. 20 in pediatric urology.
Is Emory hiring?

How does U.S. News analyze its data?
U.S. News analyzes objective data through a methodology refined through consultation with industry experts. Hospitals that treat enough patients to be assessed
are rated as high performing, as expected and evaluated.
Rankings in 11 of the 14 specialties analyzed are largely based on objective data sources, like Medicare claims and other publicly available data. Each of these 11 ranks the top 50 hospitals, based on survival rates for serious cases, patient experience and other performance measures assessed through hard data.
To be named a Best Regional Hospital, a facility must earn at least eight High Performing ratings in evaluated procedures and have at least five more High Performing ratings than the total number of Evaluated ratings it received.
