Southern Living Barbecue Editor Robert Moss recently released his latest list of the top new barbecue restaurants. This included four in Georgia, two in Augusta.
Moss specifically looked at hot spots that are less than two years old and ranked them based on his personal experiences with the food and the overall restaurants.
Where is the best BBQ restaurant in Augusta?
Moss said "It’s rare to find good barbecue in suburban storefronts, but it’s well worth the short detour off Interstate 20 to visit Smoke & Barrels." He placed the Evans eater at 11th, recommending the tender tri-tip beef which was "perfectly medium rare with a fine smoky bark" and the juicy, thick-sliced turkey. Moss also highlighted the green beans which "swim in a rich bacon-laced broth" and the Brunswick stew with rice.

Just a few rungs below at No. 14 is Bradley's BBQ in Augusta, which Moss said has "plenty of good eats" with special praise going to the "long, tender strands of pulled pork" which are "quite tasty when doctored up with Bradley's original sauce, a spicy tomato-vinegar blend." He also recommended the "delicious slow-cooked green beans" and "rather unique tomato-laced hash and rice." Customers can eat this and more in booths fashioned from repurposed church pews.

BBQ chicken crock pot
A trendy barbecue meal to make and eat at home is BBQ chicken in a slow cooker. Popular Southern grandmother and content creator "Mama Sue" posted a video of how to make it in 2023:
