A group of Savannah River Mission Completion summer interns and early-career engineers spent part of June 12 cleaning up litter along Highway 278 near an entrance to the Savannah River Site.
Partnering
with Clean Up Aiken!, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing roadside litter in Aiken County, the volunteers cleaned 4 miles of roadway, according to a news release. During the 90-minute effort, the team filled 68 trash bags for collection.
Natalie Midura, an intern in SRMC's Process and Regulatory Engineering group, said the event demonstrated the company's commitment to environmental stewardship and the local community.
According to SRMC Intern Coordinator Allison Brinkley, the cleanup marked the second consecutive year SRMC has partnered with Clean Up Aiken! to improve roads leading to the Savannah River Site.
Brinkley said the volunteer effort helps support the community while showing how small actions can make a visible difference for residents and commuters.
