National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest single-day volunteer event dedicated to stewarding public lands. To mark the occasion, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is inviting community members to help clean up litter at J. Strom Thurmond Lake.
Each year, volunteers across the country work together to improve parks, lakes, forests and other public spaces through conservation and service projects.
The cleanup will be held Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers can help pick up litter and debris at the following recreation areas and shoreline locations:
- Scotts Ferry Boat Ramp
- Tarzan's Hole
- Clarks Hill Day Use Area
- Keg Creek Boat Ramp
- Modoc Boat Ramp
- Columbia Wayside at the base of Price Lake Bridge
Participants may also choose another area of the lake for litter pickup. Volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable
clothing and closed-toe shoes appropriate for outdoor work. Gloves, trash bags, and other cleanup supplies will be available at the visitor center for volunteers who RSVP.
Collected litter and debris may be dropped off at the J. Strom Thurmond Visitor Center, 510 Clarks Hill Highway in Clarks Hill, South Carolina. Drop-off will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the day of the event.
