The Islamic Society of Augusta will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a free open house and international food festival from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 3 at the Islamic Community Center of Augusta, 1 Islamic Center Dr., Martinez. In keeping with its mission of community engagement, the event will feature food, cultural exhibits and educational activities, according to a community announcement.
Members representing more than 30 nationalities and ethnicities will share traditional foods, customs and cultural displays. Visitors can tour the center, attend presentations about Islam, meet community members and observe a congregational prayer scheduled for 2 p.m.
“This celebration reflects the
diversity, friendships, and partnerships that continue to make our community stronger,” said Mohamed Gaafer Abo-Elhamd, president of the organization.
Founded in 1976, the organization provides educational, religious, recreational and community-building programs throughout the CSRA. Admission is free. More information is available at isaugusta.com.
