The Burke County Sheriff’s Office reported it will provide more details on Monday about the slayings of four people and the death of the suspect.
The sheriff’s office noted on social media that a suspect was killed Sunday following a vehicle pursuit in Sardis.
The sheriff reported that the suspect’s vehicle wrecked after it ran over stop sticks placed in the road near Charles Perry and Girard avenues. Officers reported that the suspect fired several shots at the deputies, who returned fire.
The suspect died at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
The suspect was being sought in connection with four homicides reported at residences on Twin Lakes Road and on Tom Bargeron Road. The sheriff’s
office did not immediately say when the slayings occurred or who reported the deaths.
However, after the victims were found, the sheriff’s office initially reported it was trying to find a suspect and “we cannot determine at this time who, if anyone, may be targeted next.”
Patrols were increased in the Sardis area as the investigation progressed, and authorities alerted residents to report any suspicious activity and avoid confronting anyone they think might be involved.
