An international clothing retailer with locations in 19 countries is closer to opening its first Georgia store in Augusta Mall.
"We’re so excited – Primark is opening soon! Stay tuned!" Augusta Mall announced on social media this week. No opening date was immediately available on Thursday.
The Augusta Chronicle first reported in March 2025 that the Dublin, Ireland-headquartered company had signed a lease agreement to occupy an anchor tenant spot at the mall formerly occupied by Sears.
Primark U.S. President Kevin Tulip announced the Augusta location at a 2025 retail trade show in Las Vegas, along with store openings in Greenville, S.C., and Arlington, Texas.
The Texas store opened
June 25 at The Parks Mall at Arlington, between Dallas and Fort Worth. The South Carolina store has not opened yet but still is expected to replace the former Sears in Greenville's Haywood Mall. In addition to Augusta, the retailer also is eyeing a location near Lawrenceville in Georgia.
Primark has advertised several job openings for the Augusta store, from sales associates to department managers, on its website since fall 2025. It opened a job recruitment center in June on Augusta Mall's lower level next to athletic wear retailer Champs Sports.
Primark first opened in Dublin in 1969 under the name Penneys, and the 38 stores in Ireland today still carry that name. Elsewhere in the world, where U.S. retailer JCPenney still holds the rights to the Penneys name, the stores are branded as Primark.
With nearly 500 locations worldwide, Primark has drawn comparisons to other U.S. stores such as Old Navy as a seller of "fast fashion" – a business model in which trendy fashion designs are quickly and inexpensively mass-produced. Other retailers using the fast fashion model include online businesses Shein and Temu.
Primark also sells fashion accessories, shoes, beauty products and housewares.
