Two days after their first scrimmage of the summer, the Tennessee Titans are back at Vanderbilt Health Football Center for another training camp practice.
The Titans held their Blue and White Scrimmage
on Aug. 7 at Nissan Stadium, showing their progress in front of fans in a scrimmage format for the first time. Now on Aug. 9, the Titans are back at the practice facility for their final practice before heading off to California for a week that includes a joint practice and a preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.
In this final practice before leaving, the Titans will continue working on installing coach Robert Saleh's defense and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll's scheme.

Jeffery Simmons on being thrown out of practice earlier this week
Jeffery Simmons also said his actions were inappropriate after throwing a punch in scuffle that resulted in Simmons being tossed from practice earlier this week.
Simmons said he and JC Latham had a long talk yesterday about football and life, and there's no lingering beef after the issue in practice.
"But at the end of the day, man, I'm a competitive guy," Simmons said. "When we're talking about the game of football, especially in the trenches, I think sometimes people on the outside can blow things up.
"... When I play this game, I'm passionate. Everything I've got, I leave it on the football field."
Jeffery Simmons on Peter Skoronski's extension: 'He deserves it, man'
Peter Skoronski is the first Titans first-round pick to sign a second contract with the franchise since Jeffery Simmons.
The 2019 first-rounder was happy to see his teammate sign long-term.
"He deserves it, man," Simmons said. "All the people don't know, last week, I told Pete: 'I enjoy going up against you.' I told him, I said, 'Even after practice, if you want to get that extra work in, if you want to get something (done) you saw at practice, ask me.' To be able to battle against Pete these last couple years at practice have helped me so much."
Peter Skoronski: Contract talks picked up 'a little bit ago'
Peter Skoronski said he didn't have a timeline in his head for a goal to get an extension done, but talks picked up "a little bit ago" before signing on Aug. 7.
Skoronki notes that the AAV numbers for the highest paid players at positions "changes every year" so he doesn't put stock in that point, but he has lofty goals in living up to the deal.
"I strive to be in that group of the best guards in the league," Skoronski said. "If that's where my goals are, I think that helps our team."
John Franklin-Myers should return Sunday
John Franklin-Myers is likely to return to practice on Sunday after sitting out with a lower-back issue.
Robert Saleh on injuries, including Kalel Mullings and Tyjae Spears
Robert Saleh said after practice that Kalel Mullings (hip) and Tyjae Spears (soreness) did not finish practice. Team is evaluating Mullings for a hip pointer.
Defense "wins" scrimmage with failed two-point conversion
Marcus Harris bats down a two-point conversion pass attempt from Cam Ward to break a 9-9 tie. Defense wins, 10-9.
Trubisky to Dike for a TD in two-minute drill
After a Joshua Williams pass interference penalty on Elic Ayomanor, Mitchell Trubisky finds Chimere Dike for a touchdown in the back of the end zone.
Good two-minute drive.
No. 1 offense drives for a field goal after "halftime"
The No. 1 offense drives into the opposing territory but stalls out again. Joey Slye is good from 48 yards.
Highlight of the drive was a Cam Ward throw on the run to Wan'Dale Robinson for a first down.

Defense starting to show out
The first-team defense wins the battle on a two-minute drill, including a Cedric Gray sack of Cam Ward.
Femi Oladejo with another TFL
Good day so far for Femi Oladejo with a sack to force a punt on the next drive for the No. 2s.
3rd team offense punts ball away
Will Levis made a nice throw on a 3rd and long completion, but the drive stalls out near midfield. The second-teamers are back out after the punt, with Mitchell Trubisky at QB.
Cam Ward to Gunnar Helm for a TD
Gunnar Helm makes a high-reaching catch in the back of the end zone for a touchdown to cap a steady drive that was heavy on the passing game.

Ward was 8-for-8 on the drive with a handful of checkdowns as well as a nice toe-tapping catch by Carnell Tate.
Joey Slye misses field goal on first second-teamer drive
No. 2 offense vs. No. 2 defense ends with a Joey Slye missed field goal from 53 yards out.
Some good and bad from both sides; Xavier Restrepo and Elic Ayomanor had catches for first downs. Ayomanor made a nice catch after a good throw up the sideline by Mitchell Trubisky.
First-team offense 10-play drive ends with a field goal
The first-team offense drives 10 plays and 70 yards, but settles for a short field goal.
Cam Ward was 3-for-3 on the drive, and Carnell Tate had two catches. Femi Oladejo did have a red-zone TFL to help the defense force the Joey Slye kick attempt.

Setting the stage for Blue & White Scrimmage
The Titans have made it through training camp relatively healthy and should only have a few small injuries to deal with heading into the scrimmage. WR Elic Ayomanor and DL John Franklin-Myers both left practice on Aug. 6 with injuries, but Saleh didn't seem to be concerned about either being particularly severe. Offensive tackles Dan Moore Jr., and JC Latham have also dealt with injuries throughout camp but both participated in the Titans' most recent practice.
Since training camp began, the Titans' defense has held the advantage over the offense. That's hardly a surprise; Saleh is a defensive-minded coach, and a huge chunk of the Titans' financial investment over the offseason went to solidifying a veteran presence on D.

Titans position battles: What to know
Consider these the five most premium position battles:
Right guard: Cordell Volson is the veteran. Jackson Slater and Fernando Carmona are the homegrown youth options. None of these feel like great options, but it'll be interesting to see who surprises coaches and fans alike.
Center: This doesn't feel like as much of a competition with the way Austin Schlottmann handled the job in OTAs, but Pat Coogan's presence and the signing of Andre James makes it something nonetheless.
Linebacker: Will Anthony Hill be able to push Cody Barton for a starting role from the jump? It's possible, even if it's not super likely.
Swing tackle: Especially with JC Latham starting the year on PUP, it'll be worth monitoring how Austin Deculus, Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, Zach Thomas, Aamil Wagner and Rasheed Miller compete for playing time as the No. 3 tackle.
Defensive end: It's no foregone conclusion that Keldric Faulk starts off the edge with Jacob Martin, Jaylen Harrell, Femi Oladejo and more pushing for roles. Consider it Faulk's job to lose, though.

Titans' preseason schedule, training camp schedule
The Titans are scheduled to practice 16 times in training camp, starting on July 29. Eight of those practices are scheduled to be open for fans, with the first on Aug. 1. The Titans will hold their three joint practices on Aug. 11 (at SF), Aug. 21 (vs. SEA) and Aug. 27 (vs. CHI).
The Titans' three preseason games are at San Francisco (Aug. 13, 8 p.m. CT), vs. Seattle (Aug. 23, 7 p.m. CT) and vs. Chicago (Aug. 29, 5 p.m. CT).
