Scooby, a male pup believed to be a Rhodesian Ridgeback, is the first winner of The Tennessean's new Pet of the Week initiative, which celebrates rescue animals.
There were 11 submissions for the first poll with 4,683 votes cast. Scooby, nominated by Mikaela's Mutt Motel in Clarksville, raked in 2,269 votes.
Nine dogs and two cats were nominated by animal rescues and foster facilities in the area.
Scooby is described as an energetic two-year-old who weighs about 75 pounds and prefers slices of American cheese as his version of Scooby snacks.
Mikaela’s Mutt Motel is a non-profit foster-based dog rescue that works with shelters from all over the U.S.
Many dogs come to the Mutt Motel with worms, fleas, ticks and malnutrition as staff and volunteers
quickly work to help the animals.

Reese: A 9-year-old Australian Shepherd/Bluetick Coonhound mix dog with a striking white and brown coat. Nominated by the Williamson County Animal Center.
Toben: A young male hound mix who loves the water. Nominated by . Did someone say swim time? Where there is water, there is Toben. Nominated by the Two Ladies Caring Dog Rescue in Montgomery County.
Grimace: A male kitten who loves snuggling, exploring and toys. Nominated by Finders Keepers Cat Rescuein Clarksville.
King: An adult male American Staffordshire Terrier dog who is silly, friendly and highly entertaining as a best buddy. Nominated by Kaylee's Island of Misfit Dogs.
Bjorn: A handsome three-year-old male Russian Blue mix cat, easygoing and big on naps, lounging in the sun and being near his people. Nominated by Saving Kittens Sanctuary in Clarksville.
Winston: A five-year-old terrier mix who is staying with Pawster, Nashville while his owner works to find new housing. A "fetch virtuoso."
Ollie: Ollie is a five-year-old neutered male cattle dog mix who is house-trained, walks beautifully on a leash and knows commands. Nominated by Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue.
Rango: A seven-year-old mixed-breed pup who's the definition of a good boy. Loves playing outside, the cutest ears that are full of personality and always happy to be by your side. Neutered and up to date on all vaccines and preventatives. Nominated by New Leash on Life in Lebanon.
Joan: A cheerful girl with contagious enthusiasm who likes being part of the action who keeps you smiling. Nominated by the Nashville Humane Association.
