Drake may be from Toronto, but he's choosing Texas as of late, putting a spin on Ella Langley's country hit.
The Grammy-winning rapper and "Iceman" hitmaker recently went viral after he seemingly previewed a remix of Langley's massive hit "Choosin' Texas" during a DJ set in a Toronto nightclub. In the snippet, Drake's vocals can be heard over a slowed-down rendition of the country song.
On Aug. 31, Billboard announced "Choosin' Texas" earned its 20th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Langley the longest run ever atop the chart for a non-holiday song.
Prior to the nightclub remix moment, Drake has shown his support of the emerging country superstar. He appeared at the singer's concert in Arkansas on Aug. 22 during her ongoing "The Dandelion
Tour," where he was seen singing along to "Choosin' Texas." He has publicly shared his appreciation online for her "goated pen" after she rapped the lyrics to his 2011 hit "HYFR" on TikTok.

Is Drake making a country album?
Born Aubrey Drake Graham, the Toronto-born rapper and R&B sensation has often commented in press interviews on how comfortable he feels in Tennessee. His father is from Memphis. When Drake performed in Nashville in 2018, he told the crowd: "I'm so happy to be home."
This latest remix isn't the first time Drake has shown his love of country music. This past summer, he had another viral moment when he playedGeorge Strait's 1987 country hit, "All My Exes Live in Texas," at a club in Texas—the same song Drake famously referenced in his 2011 song "HYFR."
Plus, Drake has a reputation for testing the waters with different genres and cultures, paying homage through music and incorporating global sounds into his own style. Since the preview, rumors have only grownthat Drake, named Billboard's 2021 artist of the decade, might be working on a country music album.
Frompurchasing a home a $15 million ranch in Washington County, Texas in 2024, to incorporating cowboy themes into his "Plot Twist" music video earlier this year, plus his ongoing friendship and collaboration with country music heavyweights like Morgan Wallen, a country project of some sort is plausible.
He has performed in Nashville many times before, including a 2016 show where he met up with Shania Twain. When the rapper visited Nashville again in 2024, he went viral for giving a cancer survivor a $100,000 gift.
It's only a matter of time before fans know what has been up his sleeve, if anything. For now, though, they'll have to wear out the playback button on his Langley remix. .
