Police are investigating a possible road-rage related shooting on Interstate 24 in Nashville that critically injured a man.
The shooter has claimed self-defense, which detectives are investigating, according to police.
The two drivers involved were both traveling on I-24 eastbound outside of Nashville on the evening of Sept. 4. The shooter, driving a pickup truck, passed the other driver, who was in a Honda CRV.
The driver of the Honda reportedly began to tailgate the pickup while flashing bright lights, according to the initial investigation.
When both drivers got into Nashville they stopped in the far left lane of travel on I-24 East near Spring Street.
According to the driver of the pickup, the other driver got out of the Honda CRV and approached
the truck with his right hand behind his back. The driver of the pickup fired multiple shots and hit him.
The driver of the pickup then drove to I-40 and Fesslers Lane, where he pulled over around 8 p.m. and called police.
The driver of the Honda CRV drove himself to St. Thomas Hospital Midtown but was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
Officers recovered a handgun from the truck of the shooter along with four casings and a knife at the I-24/Spring Street scene.
No charges were immediately filed as police continue to investigate.
