Jack Corbin, the father of Vanderbilt baseball coach Tim Corbin, has died, the program announced Oct. 21.
Jack Corbin, an Army veteran, attended many Commodores games over the years.
It was Jack who taught Tim Corbin his appreciation of the military, leading to "Salute to Service" uniforms on Sundays and teaching his players how to stand for the national anthem.
“It was important to him,” Tim Corbin told vucommodores.com in 2014. “It was important in our home. Our country was important in our home. He made that very apparent by how we spoke and how we were raised. I just felt it was a good thing. It was not neglected.”
Tim Corbin left seats for his father when he would visit Nashville for baseball games. Jack isn't the only member of Tim Corbin's
family who became a fixture at games; his wife, Maggie, is also integral to the program, and assistant coaches Jason Esposito and Nolan Brown also frequently brought their children around.
"I can remember telling him that I really wanted to chase the dream of becoming a baseball coach, and how supportive he was," Tim Corbin told The Tennessean in 2012. "I'm sure someone who had built a business in hopes that someday his kids would take it over, there had to be a reasonable amount of disappointment. But he never shared that with me. He just encouraged me to continue to coach."
Tim Corbin has been the Vanderbilt baseball coach since 2002. He is entering his 25th season as head coach of the program in 2027.
