The Tennessee Department of Transportation will fully close more than a 2-mile stretch of Central Pike in Wilson County from John Hagar Road to Earhart Road from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting Thursday, Sept. 24.
The closure will enable crews to remove two older pipe culverts that go across the road and replace them with larger culverts to help channel water beneath the roadway faster, according to TDOT spokesperson Erin Zeigler.
Alternate routes when Central Pike will close include:
- Westbound motorists can access Central Pike utilizing Earhart Road to John Hagar Road.
- Eastbound motorists can access Central Pike utilizing John Hagar Road to Earhart Road.
- Motorists traveling eastbound on Central Pike to access Chandler Road should follow the posted detour signage. Traffic will not be permitted to travel beyond Springdale Elementary School.
Motorists who live on Chandler Road or within the closure limits will be directed around the “Road Closed” signage to access their residences.
The work is weather-related.
