Neither Lamont Roach nor William Zepeda shy away from a challenge in the ring.
Now they turn to each other with hardware on the line, clashing on Aug. 1 in Las Vegas for the WBC lightweight title. Roach is a former champion at junior lightweight, coming off of consecutive draws against Gervonta "Tank" Davis and Isaac Cruz, the former of which was in a bout for the WBA lightweight belt.
Zepeda has come up short on the world-title stage himself, suffering his first career defeat last summer to former WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, who was later stripped of the title.
"Lamont Roach is an amazing, amazing fighter ... I believe he did beat 'Tank' Davis. I believe he beat 'Pitbull,'" Zepeda's promoter Oscar De La Hoya said. "So the fact that
he's coming off two draws (and) the fact that Zepeda is coming off a loss against arguably, probably the best fighter on the planet Shakur Stevenson. Both guys have something to prove and you're going to see it Saturday night."
In addition, the co-main event will see Raymond Muratalla in the maiden defense of his IBF lightweight title against former world champion Robson Conceicao.
