Gavin Chakar, a right-handed pitcher from Connecticut who is ranked No. 11 in the 2028 class by Baseball America and No. 27 by Prep Baseball Report, announced his commitment to Vanderbilt baseball Oct. 21.
Chakar, who is from Norwalk, Conn., and attends The Stony Brook School, also played for the USA Baseball 15U National Team. His fastball reaches 96 mph with a slider and changeup.
"After a lot of thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I am extremely excited and blessed to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Vanderbilt University!" Chakar said on Instagram. "I want to give a special thank you to Coach Corbin, Coach Brown, and the entire Vanderbilt coaching staff for believing in me and giving me this
incredible opportunity. I can’t wait to get to work!"
Chakar joins a long line of pitchers from the northeast to commit to the Commodores under Tim Corbin. Fellow 2028 commit Liam Laffin is also from Connecticut.
Chakar joins infielder Aiden Kearney and catcher Jack Rhodes as blue-chip recruits in Vanderbilt's 2028 class. The Commodores also have commitments from infielder DJ Jones and outfielder Canyon Koonce.
