Ethan Gailey, a member of Cumberland's men's soccer team, died in a motorcycle accident over the weekend. Gailey was a sophomore who played on the program's junior varsity team.
Gailey was from Kingston Springs, Tennessee.
Cumberland issued this statement:
"The Cumberland University athletics family is heartbroken by the passing of student-athlete Ethan Gailey, who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident over the weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ethan's family, friends, teammates, coaches, and all those who knew and loved him during this tough time."
Athletic director Ron Pavan said he had no further information.
