Ryan Blaney, second in the NASCAR Chase points standings, suffered brake failure, causing him to hit the wall and end his NASCAR Gateway race in Stage 3 on Sept. 13.
Blaney said the issue was the brake caliper. Blaney never led but ran in the top-5 for much of the race prior to the part failure. He said he felt his No. 12 Team Penske Ford was fast enough to be in contention before his brakes failed.
It brought out the 11th caution in the Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway.
Blaney, who finished fourth at Darlington in the first race in the Chase on Sept. 6, scored 14 stage points.
