Hunters Lane has forfeited its TSSAA football season opener against Clarksville Academy on Aug. 21 due to not having enough players, Metro Nashville Public Schools district athletic director Mark North confirmed to The Tennessean.
North said Hunters Lane expects to have “plenty” of players for Week 2, but there were late arrivals to the program who weren’t able to complete the TSSAA’s heat acclimation period to be ready for Week 1.
The belief right now is that Hunters Lane will play its Aug. 28 game at McGavock in Week 2.
Hunters Lane is the second Nashville area program to forfeit its opener this week. Mt. Juliet Christian Academy forfeited
its game against Jo Byrns after its proposal to co-op with RePublic for one year was not approved by the TSSAA Board of Control on Aug. 17.
Hunters Lane has dealt with low numbers through the preseason and is trying to gain traction overall with a 7-43 record over the past five seasons.
The Warriors went 0-10 in coach Devlin Culliver’s first season in 2025.
