Nashville will honor the legacy of Dolly Parton with a citywide Dolly Day celebration on Sept. 25, a date chosen as a nod to her iconic "9 to 5" song and film.
The event, announced by city leaders, tourism officials and nonprofit organizations, will encourage residents, businesses and visitors to celebrate Parton through acts of kindness, charitable giving and community events. Mayor Freddie O'Connell will officially proclaim Sept. 25 as Dolly Day in Nashville.
"Dolly Parton's impact on Nashville will be felt for generations, through her music, her many acts of kindness, and the example she continues to set for us today," O'Connell wrote in a statement. "She has shown us all that caring for a community means showing up for one another."
Country
stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood will donate all proceeds from their Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk that day to the Nashville Public Library and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
Planned activities include citywide performances of "9 to 5" at participating music venues at 5 p.m., Dolly-themed food and drink specials benefiting charities, pink-lit landmarks, neighborhood celebrations and a downtown fireworks tribute at 9:25 p.m.
The celebration will also launch Give Like Dolly — Middle Tennessee, a charitable campaign supporting nonprofits focused on children, health, community needs and music.
