DII-A Girls sole class without defending state champion
Seven of the eight classifications in the 2026 TSSAA state golf tournament have a reigning champion returning to defend their title.
The list includes Signal Mountain's Sam Otwell (Class A Boys), Walker Valley's Cody Walter (Class AA Boys), Franklin Road's Walker Webb (DII-A Boys), Memphis University School's Brantley Moore (DII-AA Boys), Springfield's Elizabeth Prowse (Class A Girls), Dickson County's Poppy Pewitt (Class AA Girls) and St. Mary's' Jada Lin (DII-AA Girls).
Brentwood Academy absence leaves hole in boys DII-AA
The Brentwood Academy boys golf supremacy is taking a hiatus in 2026. The BA boys did not qualify for the 2026 state tournament after winning three consecutive titles in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
In its place, Father Ryan stepped up and finished as the runner-up in the DII-AA Middle Region tournament behind Ensworth. Father Ryan has sophomore Christian Trailov, who was its only representative as a individual in the tournament last year. Memphis University School's Charles Snider and McCallie's Jrob Neal both shot a 67 at their region tournaments, the lowest in DII-AA.
Page, CAK girls working on three-peat
On the girls side, Page and CAK are seeking their third straight team state championships. Page has been on an upswing with a runner-up finish in 2023 before titles in 2024 and 2025. The Patriots were led last season by senior Brooke Bennett, who placed third. Replacing her is sophomore Shashe Ekker, who tied for fifth in the 2025 state tournament and shot a 68 to lead Page to a Region 5 victory in Class AA.
CAK is searching for its sixth state title in school history. Led by sophomores Kalen Jackson and Lenlee Smith, they finished as the runner-up in the DII-A East region tournament behind fellow Knoxville rival, Grace Christian Academy.
