Now that sophomores are officially upperclassmen with a full year of high school experience, we are recognizing their growth and leadership with this week's Tennessean Student of the Week.
With 90% of the vote, the top spot went to Annaston Taylor of Greenbrier High School.
Taylor was nominated by principal Katie Osborne, who describes her as an exceptional sophomore leader who consistently makes a positive impact on her school community.
“As our sophomore FCA representative, she played a key role in planning and launching FCA PROVEN 2026 and has worked alongside fellow students to expand FCA’s influence through faculty appreciation initiatives, athletic team support, and community service projects,” Osborne wrote.
“Beyond her leadership roles,
Annaston leads by example in everything she does. Whether she is excelling in the classroom, competing on the court, or serving others behind the scenes, Taylor demonstrates outstanding character, kindness, and a genuine commitment to helping those around her. Her involvement in academics, athletics, and student organizations allows her to model leadership, responsibility, and service for both her peers and younger students. Annaston’s influence extends far beyond what is visible, and she continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others while helping create a welcoming and supportive school community.”
Each week, The Tennessean reaches out to high school principals, counselors and administrators to seek nominations for our Student of the Week series. The nominations are posted along with a voting poll at 5 a.m. each Monday. Voting continues in the poll through Thursday and results are revealed online Friday.

Three students were nominated by administrators and faculty for this week's poll. As always, we believe every student who gets nominated is a winner, so here's a little more about our students from this week.
Abigail Hernandez, Hickman County High
JROTC cadet Abigail Hernandez exemplifies what it means to be a leader on and off the field, her nominator said. Whether wearing the JROTC uniform or representing the school on the soccer field, she leads by example and encourages everyone around them to give their best. Beyond academics and athletics, Abby gives countless hours to serving and supporting the community. Her willingness to volunteer, help others, and make a positive difference demonstrates a level of character and selflessness that deserves recognition.
Allie Lancaster , White House Heritage High
Allie is a great teammate and leader, her nominator said. She never fails to make everyone laugh, and she always brings such positive energy to everyone around her. She is a hardworking athlete, and she makes the most of every opportunity. I’m honored to have her in my program, and her team is lucky to have her!
