Teofimo Lopez looks to capture hardware in a third weight class as he challenges reigning WBA welterweight champion Rolly Romero on Aug. 22 in Las Vegas.
Lopez will make his divisional debut against Romero, moving up after suffering a unanimous decision defeat in a January 140-pound title defense against Shakur Stevenson. Lopez didn't plan to stay away from the title picture for long, though, quickly turning to a new division and circling Romero.
Romero is yet to defend his welterweight title, having been out of the ring since a career-best win over Ryan Garcia in May 2025. In that fight he won the WBA "Regular" title and was later elevated as the sanctioning body's full welterweight champion.
"I think Rolly’s skills are underappreciated," Lopez
said during a media workout. "He controls the pace and makes it his fight, everyone overlooks that. But he’s not underrated on the stature side. He’s a world champion for a reason."
