A 24-year-old passenger died in a single-car crash on Interstate 65 in the early morning of Sept. 27.

The Metro Nashville Police Department said the passenger, Austin Franklin, was in an argument with the driver as they traveled on Briley Parkway near the split with I-65 and Dickerson Pike around 2 a.m.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates Franklin grabbed the steering wheel during the argument, sending the car, a Toyota Camry, off the road.

The Camry then traveled down an embankment, crossed all lanes of I-65 North and struck a concrete median, the police department said.

Franklin died at the scene. The driver, a 20-year-old woman, was taken to Skyline Medical Center and was in stable condition at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 27, police said.
