From Tennessee's first Twisted Sugar shops to a new Nissan dealership, bank branch, fitness center and Wawa convenience store, a wave of commercial development is underway across Wilson County.
Several long-planned projects are nearing construction milestones or opening dates in Mt. Juliet and Lebanon, bringing new dining, retail, automotive and fitness options.
Twisted Sugar
The first Twisted Sugar location in Tennessee will open in a new 7,000-square-foot building for multiple tenants on Golden Bear Gateway in Mt. Juliet by the Golden Bear Market that includes Tim Hortons and Milestone Craft Deli.
The building is estimated for completion in early October, developer Naren Patel said.
Local franchise owner Jared Russell hopes to open Twisted Sugar in early January.

Russell is also moving forward on a second Twisted Sugar shop in Murfreesboro off Northfield Boulevard. He is planning a third location but has not announced a location.
Twisted Sugar, known for cookies and dirty sodas, has 45 stores nationwide. The Mt. Juliet and Murfreesboro locations will be the first Twisted Sugar shops in Tennessee, Russell said.
The brand will have a rotating cookie menu with 12 to 15 fresh-baked cookies. Twisters are Twisted Sugar's "version of a milkshake," Russell said.
Both shops will have drive-through lanes, Russell said
Victory Nissan
Victory Nissan will expand and build a new dealership on Pleasant Grove Road in Mt. Juliet, near the At Home and Walmart stores.
Site work is underway.
An estimated opening date in 2027 is still undermined, said Colin Fitzgerald, executive manager of Victory Automotive Group.
Business will continue as normal at Victory Nissan’s Thompson Lane location, Fitzgerald said.

Whataburger to be replaced with First Horizon
First Horizon Bank has signed a lease to move into the corner at North Mt. Juliet and Lebanon roads in Mt. Juliet where Whataburger closed in December.
Renovations will be done at the building located at 11190 Lebanon Road, said Mark Lineberry of Lineberry Properties.
The former Mt. Juliet Whataburger was one of four Middle Tennessee Whataburger restaurants that closed in late 2025. The Mt. Juliet Whataburger had a 15-year-lease that went into effect when the restaurant opened in July 2024.
Lineberry Properties canceled the lease requirement for Whataburger.

Crunch Fitness
A new Crunch Fitness is moving into the former Bargain Hunt store in Lebanon at 1311 West Main Street.
The tentative opening is in the winter or spring of 2027.
7 Brew
Plans are approved for the coffee shop on West Main Street at a former gas station site, near South Hartmann and across from a Hardee’s restaurant. Tentative hopes are to open by the end of the year, according to the company.

Wawa
A convenience and fuel store under construction at 1000 Murfreesboro Road in Lebanon is estimated to open by the end of September, according to a company spokesperson.
Wawa is also working through the approval process in efforts to build and open a second store on South Hartmann Drive, the company has said.
The Pennsylvania-based company opened its first Tennessee store June 18 in Clarksville.
Fifth Third Bank
Site work started for the location on North Mt. Juliet Road in the Everette Downs development anchored by Sprouts. First quarter 2027 is the latest estimate to open.
Nicoletto's Pasta Co.
