Blaze Berlowitz won't be Jared Curtis' backup quarterback for the foreseeable future.
The signal-caller suffered a broken collarbone late when Vanderbilt football lost to Ole Miss on Oct. 10, and he will be out for a month.
So who will now be the backup?
The Commodores' depth chart listed Whit Muschamp "or" Jack Elliott as QB2 on Oct. 13. But when Vanderbilt (3-3, 0-3 SEC) takes on Arkansas (2-4, 0-3) on Oct. 17 (6 p.m. CT, ESPN2), Muschamp is likely to be the next man up if Curtis were to go down.
But, Clark Lea said Oct. 15 that if Curtis, the 5-star freshman, needs to come out, there's a chance both Muschamp and Elliott could play.
"They both bring different skillsets," Lea said. " ... Whit would be the first in, but there's a real world where
we see both of them. Those guys are excellent. I can't say enough good about them. ... Both had really good attempts for the starting job. And so there's a lot of faith and confidence in what those guys bring."
Who is Whit Muschamp?
Whit Muschamp is the son of Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. He has two pass attempts in his career, both this season against Georgia. He went 2-for-2 for 18 yards passing.
Muschamp was a 3-star prospect coming out of the Baylor School in Chattanooga. He also considered offers from Georgia Tech, Louisville, Missouri, Ole Miss and others.
Who is Jack Elliott?
Jack Elliott is a sophomore, but he did not see any game action in 2025. He came in for one play during the Georgia game and ran for one yard.
From Orland Park, Ill., and Mount Carmel High School, Elliott was a 3-star prospect who chose Vanderbilt over Ivy League and service academy offers.
