Nashville is set to turn pink on Sept. 25 in honor of the beloved Tennessee songstress, actress and philanthropistDolly Parton.
Sept. 25 marks theinaugural Dolly Day, a citywide celebration honoring the country music icon through acts of kindness, community service and civic engagement. The event comes one month after Parton died following a brief battle with cancer.
The date is a nod to Parton's 1980 song and film "9 to 5."
Events and promotions will take place across Nashville throughout the day, with participating businesses hosting Dolly-themed celebrations and donating proceeds to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Country music stars Garth Brooksand Trisha Yearwood will donate all proceeds from their Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk
on Sept. 25 to the Nashville Public Library and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
“Dolly Parton’s remarkable legacy is also the story of an extraordinary entrepreneur who has shown what is possible when creativity, authenticity and a deep commitment to community come together,” said President and CEO of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce Stephanie Coleman in a statement.
“Her impact as a business leader extends far beyond her own success, creating jobs, opportunities and economic impact across our state. We encourage businesses throughout Middle Tennessee to join Dolly Day and celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and commitment to community that have always been part of Dolly’s example.”
The celebration will also include performances of "9 to 5," Dolly-inspired food and drink specials, and free Dolly Day buttons, stickers and bookmarks available while supplies last at visitor information centers inside Bridgestone Arena and Fifth + Broadway.

What is 'Dolly Day?'
Dolly Day, held on Sept. 25, is a citywide event honoring Parton through acts of kindness, community service and civic engagement, according to a news release.
The date is a nod to Parton's song and film "9 to 5." According to organizers the celebration is intended to reflect the generosity, kindness, music and entrepreneurial spirit that made Parton a defining figure in Nashville and beyond.
Dolly Day was announced by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp, Music Community Foundation, the Office of Mayor Freddie O'Connell and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.
