Months after announcing new recruitment efforts, the Franklin Police Department is welcoming four new officers to its ranks.
Earlier this year, the department raised starting salaries for both new recruits and experienced officers, making it one of the highest-paying law enforcement agencies in Middle Tennessee.
Effective immediately, entry-level officers will earn a starting salary of $68,000, while certified lateral officers can earn between $73,000 and $77,000, depending on verified law enforcement experience.

On Sept. 23, Faulkner administered the oath of office to Officers Spencer Chapel, Kevin Hoffman, Sutton Welch and Kainoa Zelaya during a ceremony attended by family members, friends and fellow officers.

The newly sworn officers bring a variety of backgrounds and experiences to the department, with three relocating to Middle Tennessee from outside the state, the agency said.
The hires reflect a broader regional recruitment trend, as law enforcement agencies across Middle Tennessee continue attracting officers from around the country.
"We get people who are relocating to Tennessee from literally all over the country," Murfreesboro Police Department Lt. Jason Higgins previously told The Tennessean. "I think Tennessee is a draw to many because of the way of life here. Many move because they can come and make a little bit more while doing the same job."
Chapel, a Georgia native, earned a master's degree in sports and exercise science from Cumberland University. Before joining FPD, he served as a correctional officer with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.
Hoffman, originally from New Jersey, brings an extensive military background to the department. He served 15 years in the United States Marine Corps and received the Purple Heart. After retiring from military service, Hoffman worked in private security before pursuing a career in law enforcement.
Welch, a Texas native, earned a master's degree in communication from Abilene Christian University.
Zelaya, the lone Middle Tennessee native among the group, earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Columbia State Community College. He also has deep ties to the department. His father, Don Zelaya, served with the Franklin Police Department for 27 years.
The four officers will now begin the next phase of their training as they prepare to serve the Franklin community.
