Lamont Roach looks to end his run of draws as he faces all-action contender William Zepeda for the vacant WBC lightweight title on Aug. 1 in Las Vegas.
In 2025, Roach fought to consecutive draws against Gervonta "Tank" Davis then Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz, each fights in which Roach walked to his corner believing he was the winner after the final bell. The draw against Davis remains controversial over a year later, with Davis still yet to return to the ring since, while less doubt was cast after 12 hard fought rounds against Cruz.
He'll take no soft touch in his return. There isn't a fighter in boxing who throws or lands more punches than Zepeda, who's looking to bounce back from his first career loss last July against four-division world champion
Shakur Stevenson.

We’re at the forefront of the lightweight division and we know every opponent at this level presents a serious challenge,” Zepeda said in a press release. “Once again, we’ve been given the opportunity to fight for a world championship, and we’re ready to show the world exactly who ‘El Camarón’ Zepeda is. I hope Lamont comes fully prepared, because we’re going to put on a great show for the fans.”

Lamont Roach is 25-1-3 with 10 wins by knockout.
Roach is a former world champion at 130 pounds, having won the WBA title from reigning champion Hector Garcia in 2023. He logged one defense before moving up a division to lightweight to challenge for Davis's world title. He then moved up again to challenge interim WBC 140-pound champion Isaac Cruz, but now returns to lightweight against Zepeda.
Roach is the WBC's No. 2-ranked contender at lightweight.
William Zepeda record
William Zepeda is 33-1 with 27 wins by knockout.
Zepeda had long been positioned as one of the lightweight division's top contenders when he received his first career title shot against Stevenson last summer. Stevenson stymied Zepeda's non-stop offense to claim a comfortable unanimous decision and retain the WBC title. Stevenson was later stripped of the belt, allowing Zepeda another title shot against Roach.
Zepeda remains the WBC No. 1-ranked contender at lightweight.
