Chattanooga Christian will play an independent football schedule for the upcoming 2027-29 cycle and will not participate in the TSSAA playoffs, according Chattanooga Times Free Press' Stephen Hargis.
The school announced the move on Sept. 29. The TSSAA moved Chattanooga Christian from Division II-AA to DII-AAA on Sept. 22 because of its enrollment of 539.
Chattanooga Christian is set to appeal its assignment to DII-AAA at the TSSAA Board of Control meeting on Oct. 1.
Chattanooga Christian is the seventh Division II school to opt for an independent,
non-region schedule for the next two seasons.
Christ Presbyterian Academy announced its intention to move from DII-AAA to an independent schedule on Sept. 22. Father Ryan, also in DII-AAA, followed on Sept. 27, becoming the second team to leave the classification.
On Sept. 28, Memphis University School and Christian Brothersannounced in a joint statement that they'd be moving to an independent schedule.
In DII-A, Mt. Juliet Christian Academy announced its departure to an independent schedule on Sept. 24. Clarksville Academy followed on Sept. 25. Both schools cited low numbers as the reason.
The Chargers went 1-9 last season in Division II-AA and are currently 2-3.
