Andrew Allegretta is glad he pressed record on Sept. 19 in the FirstBank Stadium radio booth, even when the Commodores were given just a 0.1% chance of winning in the final seconds of their game against NC State.
Vanderbilt (3-0) pulled off the improbable comeback when Miles Capers forced a fumble and Cayden Daniels recovered in the end zone with one second left and the Wolfpack (1-2) leading by three. It was only the second time in the last 20 seasons when a team lost when leading with the ball in the final 10 seconds of the game.
Allegretta, the play-by-play radio announcer for football, posted his final call of the 35-31 win on his social media.
"Did they knock the football loose? Oh goodness, did Miles Capers get the football?" Allegretta says,
after initially believing that NC State quarterback CJ Bailey had taken a safety by getting sacked in the end zone.

'Unbelievable. You've got to be kidding me. One of the most improbable finishes in the history of Vanderbilt football," Allegretta says.
Following the play, Vanderbilt had to hold for several more minutes to officially confirm a win. First, replay upheld the fumble, then one second was added back onto the clock, requiring the Commodores to kick the extra point and then kick off into the end zone. The Wolfpack made one final pass attempt after Vandy's kickoff went into the end zone. That pass was completed and included multiple laterals before the ball was fumbled back to the Commodores to end the game.
