The driver in the fatal crash that shut down Interstate 40 traffic in Nashville for hours on Oct. 2 was identified by police as 44-year-old Morgan MacGavin, of Nashville.
Police said MacGavin was driving west on Interstate 40 in a red Mazda SUV when she drove into the interstate median wall around 11 a.m. The car crossed over the westbound lanes and ran off the road into the tree line. The driver died there. There was no evidence of drugs or alcohol involvement at the scene.
The crash happened near the Highway 70 exit in Bellevue, and traffic was shut down for about three hours. The wreck was first reported around 11:10 a.m. Oct. 2 by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
