Wilson County Schools will cancel classes on Friday, Sept. 4 because of the heat, the district has announced.
A heat advisory currently in effect through 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 4, with heat index values up to 110 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
The district announced the closure with a statement that included:
“Due to the forecast for very concerning high temperatures (and) heat indexes combined and the potential impact of extreme heat on our students and staff...,”
The Lebanon Special School District is closed on Sept. 4 for an already scheduled professional development day.
Scattered afternoon showers can't be ruled out on Sept. 4, but widespread rain isn't forecast.
A more organized storm system for eastern Middle Tennessee during
the day on Saturday, Sept. 5 is possible, but still uncertain and hot temperatures weather and high heat indices are forecast to continue.
Bradley County Schools and Cleveland City Schools announced early dismissals for Sept. 3-4, because of heat concerns.
