The Will Levis era for the Tennessee Titans is over after three-plus confounding seasons.
The Titans have informed Levis, their second round pick in 2023, that he will be released on NFL roster cut down day on Aug. 30, a source confirmed to The Tennessean. Levis started 21 games across 2023 and 2024 for the Titans, throwing 21 touchdowns with 16 interceptions and leading the team to a 5-16 record. The Titans replaced him with No. 1 pick Cam Ward heading into 2025. Levis sat out the entire 2025 season after electing to have shoulder surgery in July just before the start of training camp. He returned as the Titans' third-string passer for the 2026 offseason and training camp behind Ward and veteran Mitchell Trubisky.
His 2024 season was messy. He
began the year with thoughtless turnovers against Chicago and New York that directly led to losses, followed that with an injury that kept him off the field for most of October, returned in November to put together some consistently productive performances then collapsed in December, leading to his eventual benching.
The Titans traded up to draft Levis in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft after the Kentucky product fell out of the first round. He arrived in Nashville as a backup to Ryan Tannehill, competing with 2022 draft pick Malik Willis as the future of the franchise. Levis took over for Tannehill as the Titans' starter midway through the 2023 season, debuting with fireworks by throwing four touchdowns in one game.
The results tapered off from there and Levis headed into the 2024 offseason as the Titans' projected starter but one without much of a track record to speak of.
His most memorable games in a Titans uniform include his debut, his comeback win over the Miami Dolphins on "Monday Night Football" and his 2024 win over the Houston Texans on the road. But some of his other most memorable moments come with negative memories. Those include bone-headed turnovers in the first three games of the 2024 season, as well as his four-turnover performance against Cincinnati that led to his benching.
The Titans quarterback room heading into 2026 includes Ward, veteran Mitchell Trubisky and recent signee Hendon Hooker.
