What is the story about?

A little over two years after they first opened their doors, Nashville’s TikTok office has laid off the entire staff.

In April 2024, the popular social media site owned by Chinese company ByteDance signed a 143,610-square-foot lease on Music Row.

"We have decided to close our Nashville office to streamline our operations and better align our teams for long-term growth," said TikTok USDS Joint Venture Spokesperson in a statement to The Tennessean. "We remain fully committed to providing secure, safe and positive experiences for the 200 million Americans that create, discover and connect with what they love on TikTok."

Prior to opening their Music Row office, the company maintained an office presence in Music City for several years, including occupying

several floors at the downtown WeWork coworking building.

Upon the announcement of an official office, Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn expressed disapproval of TikTok saying the app is dangerous to national security.
