The SEC once again had a telling week of college football, headlined by two of its biggest programs.
No. 1 Texas avoided upset on Saturday, Sept. 26, as it traveled on the road and defeated No. 13 Tennessee 20-17 in Week 3.
The Longhorns defense gave Vols quarterback Faizon Brandon all sorts of problems in the game, ending the game with 10 sacks, five of which were made by star edge rusher Colin Simmons. Arch Manning was solid yet unspectacular, completing 14-of-19 passes for 201 yards with an interception in the win.
The other matchups between ranked teams weren't nearly as exciting, as No. 2 Georgia rag-dolled 24th-ranked Oklahoma 41-13 thanks to
numerous turnovers by quarterback John Mateer. Elsewhere, No. 22 Florida, powered by the two-headed rushing attack of Jadan Baugh and Duke Clark went for over 200 yards against sixth-ranked Ole Miss. Even with Trinidad Chambliss' brilliance, the Rebels couldn't keep up in a 52-28 defeat.
Elsewhere, Vanderbilt lost 21-15 on the road at Auburn, while No. 21 Missouri was similarly upended at previously unranked Mississippi State, who should be in the top 25 by the time No. 8 Alabama visits Starkville in Week 5. Speaking of the Crimson Tide, Keelon Russell and Co. put together arguably their most complete game yet of the season, beating South Carolina 49-18 in a game that wasn't as close as the score implies.
