The Tennessee high school football season begins Aug. 20 with a handful of Thursday night games, but the majority of statewide schools will kick off the 2026 TSSAA season on Aug. 21.
The Tennessean has taken on the daunting task of ranking every TSSAA football team in its coverage area in and around Nashville. That's a total of 136 schools. The majority of the list includes teams eligible for the TSSAA football playoffs along with four schools that have chose to play an independent TSSAA schedule and aren't eligible for the postseason.
These rankings are based off how each team finished after the 2025 season and our predicted region order of finish that was unveiled on Aug. 4 with the help of Middle Tennessee football coaches.
As we approach the
high school football season, here are the rankings:
